Amanda is an undergraduate student at Columbia University, admitted with a likely letter. Amanda is studying Political Science, Economics, and Applied Mathematics. She attended The Beacon School, an institution part of NYC’s consortium, and graduated with a 4.0/4.0 unweighted GPA. During her time at Beacon, she was on the most accelerated track for her school, taking courses including Sociology 101 at Hunter College, AP Biology, AP Calculus, and AP Physics 1.
In high school, she was the President of Beacon’s Model UN team, a top 25 nationally ranked team, and has won several local Model UN awards as well as collegiate-level ones at Harvard (x2) and UPenn. In her Junior year, she organized her school’s conference, with 200+ students from over 20 schools in attendance, and hosted the Consulate General of South Korea in NY and the delegate of Türkiye at her school. In addition to dedicating most of her high school to Model UN endeavors, Amanda was also the captain of Beacon’s Girls’ Ultimate Frisbee team. She has been playing Ultimate for 4 years and hopes to continue playing for Columbia Ultimate in the fall. Amanda is also interested in domestic politics, and she interned at Grace Meng, NY-06, a congresswoman’s office in Queens during her junior and senior years. She hopes to pursue a career in foreign service and concentrate on International Relations at Columbia.
Amanda has experience tutoring SHSAT, SAT, Living Environment, and Geometry. During her four years of high school, she co-ran a non-profit tutoring organization that covered SHSAT and several regents courses. At Beacon, Amanda was also a Teacher’s Assistant in Geometry, Algebra II, and English.
Above all, Amanda is a literature-enthusiast and artist. When she is not in the park tossing a frisbee with her friends, she is either cooped up in her bedroom reading one of Homer’s classics, or painting.
