ATENSA

ATENSA attends New York University He is a student at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Atensa attends NYU on a $45,000 per-year scholarship ($180,000 total in scholarship money over four years). At the Gallatin School, students create their own majors based on the way they wish to influence the world, and Atensa elected to make Political Science and Marketing as his concentrations throughout college. Atensa’s current coursework includes Comparative Politics, Intro to Political Theory, Decolonizing Development, and The Nature of Success. Atensa began his journey with Kweller Prep more than 6 years ago, when he was a 7th grader and began studying for the SHSAT. Atensa dedicated his entire 7th grade school year and summer after towards SHSAT prep at Kweller. He traveled from Brooklyn and scored high enough to enter Brooklyn Latin Specialized High School, his first choice. After being admitted into his target school, Brooklyn Latin, Atensa went on to dominate as a student leader. Atensa held leadership positions on multiple sports teams throughout high school. He was also a captain on his school’s Mock Trial Team and served as a peer tutor for 3 years. He graduated with the distinguished International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. In the rigorous program, he took the Higher Level (HL) Chemistry, Biology, and History. Atensa also worked on multiple environmental projects, focused on waste reduction. Atensa participated in internships which allowed him to meet and discuss the next “big thing” in the world’s economy, sustainable energy and production, with some of the top CEOs in the industry. Atensa did not waste time throughout his early years in high school and returned to Kweller in the 9th grade to begin PSAT followed by SAT prep. Atensa scored a 1420/1600 on the SAT when he took it in the 9th grade, years ahead of the testing timeline set by his peers. Atensa was nominated for the Posse Scholarship while a senior in high. He credits becoming a Posse finalist because of his critical thinking, social networking, and character development, which is often overlooked when thinking of academic success. Atensa attended Queen of all Saints Catholic Middle School, and his dream was to attend Brooklyn Latin Specialized High School and obtain an IB Diploma. His dream came true after months of hard work, dedication, time, and effort. Atensa considers himself a global citizen and takes a strong interest in language learning. He retaught himself French (after living there for 3 years when he was a child). He also took lessons in Korean, in which he now has limited proficiency. For fun, Atensa loves to meet new people and take on jobs where he can shine. Most recently, Atensa worked for the Census, meeting and greeting others daily.
