Darren is currently an undergraduate student and Questbridge Scholar at Brown University studying Computational Biology. Darren graduated from Francis Lewis High School as an AP Scholar with Distinction as well as a member of the ARISTA National Honors Society.
Darren has taken AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Biology, AP English Language and Composition, AP Microeconomics, AP Research, AP Seminar, APUSH, and AP World. He scored 5’s in all of them except for 4’s in AP Seminar and AP World. Darren scored a 1550 on the SAT, scoring 790 and 760 on Math and English, respectively.
Outside of coursework, Darren participates in research on reproductive toxicology with a professor from Brown. Darren also volunteers at local hospitals such as New York Presbyterian Queens, where his responsibilities revolve around assisting the nurses and physicians in the Emergency Department. This summer, Darren is going to be working in the Postoperative Recovery Department at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Darren has also worked for the Chinese American Planning Council, an organization based in Flushing, Queens, that provides various programs and opportunities to the youth and elderly. Darren was also a nursing intern at Fairview Rehab and Nursing Home where he collaborated with nurses to ensure patient needs were met. Being bilingual in Mandarin, Darren was able to translate for many Chinese patients to make sure their needs were being met as well. Last but not least, Darren previously served as Chief Project Manager on URounded Tutoring, a student-led organization that aimed to provide accessible education to the youth of Queens.
In his free time, Darren is a big basketball fan, with his favorite team being the Golden State Warriors and his favorite player being Steph Curry. Darren is also a big music fan and loves listening to all kinds of music. Other hobbies also include watching anime and K Dramas.
