Isabel is an undergraduate student at Yale University. Isabel is majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with the intention of pursuing a medical career. She graduated from Townsend Harris High School (with a 4.0 GPA) and was ranked one of the best public high schools in the nation.
In the academic setting, Isabel was in Honors and AP classes throughout all four years at THHS. She took many rigorous courses, including AP World History, AP United States History, AP Psychology, AP English Language and Composition (5), AP Macroeconomics, AP Calculus AB, and AP Biology. Isabel also received a composite SAT score of 1540 (800/800 in the Math Section and 740/800 in the English section). Isabel was a Kweller student for the SAT classes.
While in school, Isabel was heavily involved in extracurriculars. During her freshman and sophomore year, she participated in her school’s Science Olympiad team. Isabel was placed in multiple categories at the regional and state levels.
Isabel was also a staff writer for The Classic, the student-run newspaper. She then transitioned to Managing Editor in her junior year. Putting an incredible amount of work in this position and reaching milestones never touched (all while receiving awards from Newsies), Isabel was also able to receive the highest position on the staff, Editor-in-Chief, during her senior year. Further delving into her interests in medicine, Isabel joined the Health Professionals Society in her freshman year, where she was able to climb the ranks from a club member to Public Relations (junior year) to President (senior year). Known for taking the initiative in her school, Isabel held the position of Secretary of the Student Union in both her junior and senior years. Her responsibilities included helping to organize multiple events, taking notes during meetings, and aiding her fellow SU members to create different initiatives.
Even on the athletic level, Isabel achieved many things. She was a part of her school’s Girls Varsity Softball team her junior year, acting as a pitcher and outfielder recreationally. Isabel also was a part of her school’s Stunt team, where she was a flier. Isabel participated in her school’s play titled S!NG her senior year, where she was able to help the Semores achieve their first win in three years.
Outside of school, Isabel participated in a variety of activities, such as the Sparks Within Reach initiative, in which she volunteered her sophomore year. Here, Isabel tutored underprivileged students, worked to create film projects, attended weekly enrichment courses to create safe communities & learned about SEL methods. Isabel was also a Student Advisory Board Member and mentor for Press Pass NYC, a non-profit organization that provides resources for NYC Public Schools aimed towards bettering journalism programs.
During her rising senior summer, Isabel interned at Weill Cornell Medical Hospital. She shadowed a General Internal medical doctor, a physical assistant, and a nurse. Isabel would use a stethoscope on patients, check on patients, and write database patient notes, furthering her love and admiration for this field.
Isabel is eager to help mentor students at Kweller Prep, where she herself was also once a student. During her free time, Isabel enjoys going on walks, baking, and hanging out with her friends
