Katie is an undergraduate student at x who is pursuing a major in Biochemistry with a minor in Business. Katie is a graduate of Hunter College High School. In the 6th grade, Katie attended Kweller’s Hunter Prep courses and came back in 10th grade for SAT prep. She scored a 36/36 on her ACT, a 1500 on her SAT, and took APs such as AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics, and AP BC Calculus. Katie is extremely familiar with the methods required to excel on standardized testing.
Outside of school, Katie has an abundance of experience working in a professional setting. Her internships include work as a receptionist at Manhattan Bridge Orthodontics, shadowing surgeons at Lenox Hill’s Department of Neurosurgery, and providing support to physical therapists at Gouverneur Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. Katie has also worked as an SAT English and Writing tutor at LEAP Education in Chinatown and has taught both group classes as well as privately one-on-one.
Katie also frequently does volunteer work with local nonprofits. Partnering with Hamilton-Madison House, an organization that aims to provide services to underprivileged demographics in the Lower East Side, Katie began The Red Thread club at Hunter, where she, alongside fellow classmates, teaches elderly nursing home residents how to crochet. In her spare time, she volunteers as an assistant coach for the New York Strangers Volleyball Team, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on making volleyball accessible and affordable.
At school, Katie is the leader of the Asian Cultural Society’s Sing segment and a writer for Hunter’s Culinary publication. She is also a teaching assistant for 9th-grade Biology and a member of the Girls Varsity Volleyball and Badminton teams.
As a tutor at Kweller, Katie is eager to share her experiences with her students and takes pride in the progress her students make after her mentorship. In her free time, Katie enjoys playing video games, buying milk tea with her friends, and playing volleyball.
