KAZI

Kazi is currently a graduate student at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, pursuing her Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She graduated from New York University with degrees in Biology and Sociology and previously attended The Brooklyn Latin School, where she earned her International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

During high school, Kazi challenged herself academically by taking all honors courses as well as IB Higher Level courses in Mathematics, Biology, and History. She earned recognition for her academic achievements, excelled in all her Regents exams, and graduated with a GPA of 3.7/4.0. She also completed many hours of community service and fulfilled the requirements of the IB Extended Essay, an independent research project that strengthened her research and writing skills. Throughout high school, she volunteered with several nonprofit organizations, including Project Sunshine and Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. She was also one of the co-presidents of Math Club and developed a community for freshmen and sophomores. She continued her commitment to community service throughout her undergraduate education.

At NYU, Kazi pursued an education that combined the natural and social sciences. Her coursework included Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Physics, while also exploring the social sciences. This combination of scientific and social science training has shaped her interest in understanding health from both biological and community perspectives.

Throughout her academic career, Kazi has excelled in science, mathematics, and research. She has contributed to research projects at both SUNY Downstate and NYU and is currently developing her skills in statistical programming and data analysis as an intern at Downstate Medical Center. She is currently preparing for her future dissertation research. As someone deeply committed to her community, Kazi hopes to contribute to research that addresses the health needs and disparities experienced by South Asian communities. She also hopes to contribute to disease prevention efforts in the Global South.

Kazi has years of experience in tutoring and mentorship, beginning in high school. She has also worked as a teaching assistant at NYU and has spent the past three years tutoring high school and college students. She has also taught students who have recently immigrated to the United States and may struggle with English. Through these experiences, she has developed a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals.

In her free time, Kazi enjoys weightlifting, spending time with her family, and traveling.
