Kweller Prep Tutor Lauren

Lauren graduated summa cum laude from Hunter College, where she was a Macaulay Honors scholar. Lauren majored in History and English Literature and minored in Spanish and Economics. While at Hunter, Lauren won awards from the History, English, and Jewish Studies departments for essay writing competitions. Lauren also revived the school news site, The Envoy, and became its editor-in-chief.

While at Hunter College, Lauren served as the captain of the cross country team and was named a CUNY Athletic Conference All-Star and a CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete. Lauren was also named an Outstanding Student Leader for her work editing The Envoy, received a scholarship from ACES: The Society for Editing, and received a fellowship from Investigative Reporters and Editors. Two of her favorite classes at Hunter were Literary Theory and Modern History of India.

Lauren graduated from Great Neck North High School, where she took 16 AP courses, which include English Literature, English Language, US and World History, Statistics, Computer Science A and Principles, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1 and C, and Spanish Language. Lauren was a year-round athlete, scored 1520 on the SAT, and was commended by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Lauren won Silver Key awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing competition and was a 2-time gold award winner, ranking 99th percentile in the National Spanish Exam. Lauren tutored students in high school and college in various subjects and feels passionate about helping students grasp difficult concepts and enjoy the learning process.

As a journalist, Lauren has written and reported for CNN, WNYC Radio, Bon Appétit, BuzzFeed News, Salon, The Forward, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, and more. She’s passionate about local news and holding leaders accountable. When she’s not writing or tutoring at Kweller Prep, Lauren enjoys running, doing yoga, and reading.
