LAURENCE

LAURENCE is a senior at the Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter College, on a full academic scholarship. She is currently double majoring in Clinical Psychology and Sociology with a concentration in Crime, Law, and Deviance. Her current classes include Child Development, Neuroscience, and Criminology. She is also taking classes in Religion and Music. Throughout college, Laurence has worked with an early head start SEIT program to service preschool-aged children with special needs. With a current GPA of 3.85/4.0, Laurence aspires to continue on to a career in clinical and counseling psychology. Laurence graduated from Hunter College High School (HCHS) in 2017 with an SAT score of 1560/1600. Whilst still in high school she took a variety of AP classes including Music Theory, Psychology, and US History, English Literature. She was also involved in many clubs at Hunter. Her school involvement included: The African American Cultural Club, interning in the counseling office, track team, the Mediterranean cultural club. Outside of school, she was very involved in the fine arts. Specifically, she studied music and dance for years. Laurence is trained in classical ballet. She has taken ballet since the age of 5. Laurence plays four instruments. They include piano, violin, flute, and guitar. Throughout her years at Hunter, Laurence was involved in various notable music programs that allowed her to perform all around New York City. Some of these venues included the Juilliard Penthouse, Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, and Steinway Hall. Laurence has studied Spanish since elementary school and French since high school. Laurence has worked as a Hunter Exam Essay grader, lead tutor, and assistant teacher at Kweller Prep for three years. She has edited and revised hundreds of sample hunter essays, proctored and administered SHSAT exams, and led exam SHSAT test reviews. Laurence is the epitome of hard work. She has worked 12-hour shifts wearing many hats at Kweller Prep and is often referred to as Kweller Prep Manhattan manager Satiya’s right hand. Outside of editing essays, Laurence helps Satiya with many behind-the-scenes tasks of running a small business. She is a dedicated tutor who participates in outreach as well. Laurence has volunteer tutored students as young as the fourth grade at The Harlem Dream Center, a community house in Harlem. When not at Kweller Laurence likes to travel with her friends. She has backpacked across Europe and plans to backpack through Asia.
