METOK is currently a student at the University of Rochester and is pursuing a major in neuroscience and a minor in Public Health on the pre-med track.
Metok is a graduate of Hunter College High School. She took courses including AP Chemistry (5), AP Biology (5), AP BC Calculus, AP Computer Science A, Statistics 113, Honors Medical Physiology, and Honors Short Fiction. She studied Latin for four years and placed summa cum laude for her achievement in the National Latin Exam. She was in Extended Honors Math, Hunter’s accelerated math program, from the eighth to eleventh grade, and in Hunter’s Science Research Seminar program. She was a teaching intern for ninth grade Honors Biology in her senior year, assisting students with their classwork and labs, in addition to periodically teaching lessons, and was a Big Sib, serving as a peer mentor for underclassmen. Metok was the Co-President of Hunter’s Neuropsychology Club and Cancer Kids First Club. She was an editor and writer for Hunter’s medical journal, was on the Debate Team as a public forum varsity debater, and was a member of the varsity swim and lacrosse teams.
Metok sat for the SAT in her junior year and scored 1540/1600, with 760/800 in English and 780/800 in Math. Metok’s SAT score placed her in the 99th percentile of SAT test-takers. She also achieved the title of National Merit Finalist in her senior year for her high PSAT score and her high school achievement.
In her junior year, Metok was awarded the Hunter College High School Award for Exemplary Community Service. She had volunteered for over 400 hours at nonprofit organizations. A large portion of her hours was derived from tutoring K-6 students in ELA and Math over the pandemic with Remote Buddies. She created tailored presentations, activities, homework, and assessments for each student to prepare them for state tests and ensure their understanding of both grade-appropriate and advanced material. She also helped plan and teach high school students at Rice University’s Summer 2023 Neurocamp program about fundamental neuroscience topics as a previous participant in the program.
Metok currently volunteers weekly at Elmhurst Hospital in the Geriatric Unit for the Healthy Outlook Program to assist with the needs of patients and healthcare staff and will volunteer in the Emergency Department this summer. She interned at her local Nao Medical Clinic and shadowed physicians and nurses at the clinic and Elmhurst. During her free time, Metok enjoys swimming, writing short stories, reading comics, and discovering new music to listen to.
