Kweller Prep Tutor Michelle Y
Michelle Y is a student at Carnegie Mellon University studying neuroscience and psychology. She plans to pursue a career in medicine or media.
A graduate of Hunter College High School, Michelle was the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, founder of her school’s psychology publication, and a writer for the yearbook. She also conducted research on the neuroinflammatory system at Weill Cornell Medicine and volunteered with Neurokidz, a non-profit dedicated to teaching younger students about neuroscience. She has also taught students across all subjects as a private tutor, for Manhattan ACE, and as a peer tutor in her school.
Michelle has taken 5 AP exams: AP French (4), AP Statistics (5), AP BC Calculus (4), AP Physics I (4), and AP Psychology (5), the latter three of which she self-studied. She took extended-honors math throughout the ninth to eleventh grades. Michelle scored a 1540 (750 English, 790 Math) on the SAT in her junior year.
Michelle loves to do anything music-related in her free time: whether that be singing, playing the piano, jamming with her friends, or discovering new artists. She leads her school’s Asian cultural club’s vocal segment and films music therapy sessions with the Nordoff-Robbins Center. Michelle also enjoys hanging out with her friends, exploring new restaurants, rewatching shows, and making matcha lattes.
