SHIBRAH

Shibrah is a licensed physician with over 15 years of experience as a practicing anesthesiologist. She is board-certified in anesthesiology. Shibrah completed her residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Shibrah graduated from the SUNY Health Science Center Medical School in Brooklyn with a Medical Degree (MD). She graduated from New York University’s College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor’s degree in biology. Shibrah attended NYU on scholarship and she was part of the Dean’s Circle which also paid for international travel with her classmates while at NYU. Shibrah completed four years of research with Rockefeller University at the Leibowitz Lab while also enrolled at NYU. For her science research, Shibrah was awarded the Rudin Internship Scholarship. She was part of various pre-med extra-curricular clubs throughout her years at NYU. Shibrah is the chairperson and creator of the SMJ Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization committed to improving health and education on a global scale. One of the programs she spearheaded provides guidance for students interested in pursuing health science careers. Shibrah is also a certified AAAASF surveyor, which means she is a medical specialist dedicated to the peer-based accreditation. Her responsibilities include visiting medical facilities to help promote patient safety by conducting thorough, consistent surveys and evaluating each facility through observation, staff and patient interviews and assessment of each standard to determine compliance or non-compliance. Shibrah has volunteered as a doctor for the Human Rights Clinic for 15 years. She began volunteering while she was a medical school student. Shibrah completed an Ambulatory Care Clerkship with the Indian Health Services. While in medical school, Shibrah participated in a Health Care in Developing Countries Clerkship at Kikuyu Hospital in Kenya. Shibrah also served as the Assistant Coordinator of the Homeless Shelter Outreach Program and as a tutor for the College of Health-Related Professions at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, formerly known as SUNY Downstate. Shibrah published an abstract was on “PVN Serotonin and i.p. Metorgoline Injections Produce Opposite Effects on Meal Patterns in the Rat,” Society for the Study of Ingestive Behaviors and another abstract on “Changes in Natural Meal patterns After PVN Injection of Norepinephrine and i.p. Injection of Clonidine,” Proceedings and Abstracts of the Annual Eastern Psychological Association. Shibrah served as an Honorary Ambassador for UNICEF. Shibrah is a member of many medical societies, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Medical Society of the State of NY. Queens Medical Society, the NYS Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Medical Association. Shibrah is the proud mother of 4 children born and raised in Queens. Her eldest daughter graduated from Townsend Harris in three years and is now on the pre-med track at New York University as a neuroscience major and data science minor.
