Tasfiyah is currently an undergraduate student at Hunter College, where she is pursuing a major in Human Biology. Tasfiyah graduated from Queens High School for the Sciences at York College and graduated as an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of ARISTA. Tasfiyah earned a 1550 SAT score, putting her in the 99th percentile of all test takers, and took 12 rigorous AP courses, such as AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry.
Tasfiyah has extensive mentorship and leadership experience. She serves as the secretary for the Jackson Heights Young Sisters subchapter at the Muslim Ummah of North America, helping to mentor young women on social and personal issues to foster a sense of community. Tasfiyah is also a volunteer tutor at an ESL conversation club, where she bridges linguistic gaps by teaching students through real-world scenarios and guides students through English grammar and pronunciation. She tailors her lessons to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, creating strategies that make learning more engaging.
Aside from leadership, Tasfiyah is an active member of her community through volunteering and service. She is a volunteer in the Emergency Department at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital, where she optimizes patient experience and manages medical equipment. She was a volunteer at Elmhurst Hospital’s Central Nursing Education department as well, filing paperwork and preparing materials for educators. Tasfiyah has also participated in initiatives to expand Asian-American voices in her community and to analyze the root causes of health disparities within underserved communities to develop scalable strategies to improve equitable healthcare access.
In her free time, Tasfiyah enjoys baking desserts (and occasionally mac and cheese), playing badminton, and reading fictional novels.
