Dori applied Early Decision 2 and was accepted to Emory University in Atlanta into Emory College. She is a current senior at the Bronx High School of Science and previously attended East Side Middle School. Dori is a longtime student at Kweller Prep. She began her studies at Kweller when she was in the 7th grade to prepare for the SHSAT. After sacrificing her spring, summer, and fall preparing for the test, Dori was ultimately accepted to her first choice for High School, Bronx High School of Science. Dori began studying for the SAT with Kweller Prep in the summer of 2020. Ultimately, she scored a 770/800 on the math and 750/800 on the Reading and Grammar section, superscoring 1520/1620. Throughout her high school career, Dori undertook a rigorous course program. She was on both the Honors Math and Honors Spanish tracks and enrolled in a total of 8 (eight) Advanced Placement courses, including AP European History, AP United States History, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, and AP Calculus AB.

Dori participated in her high school’s Social Science Research program, where she researched the relationship between body dissatisfaction and social media. She took a plethora of elective classes as well, including Spanish for Professions, Elements of Engineering, Digital Music, and Research Literacy. At the end of her junior year, Dori had a cumulative unweighted GPA of 96.86/100. At school, Dori is involved in several engaging extracurricular activities. She is a varsity member of the Bronx High School of Science Speech and Debate Team, the #1 speech and debate team in the country. She debates monthly public forum resolutions on the national circuit and judges first and second-year students at local tournaments. Dori is a National Merit ScholarshipFinalist, serves as a Big Sib at Bronx Science, a role where she mentors a cohort of 34 incoming freshman students at Bronx Science. Additionally, Dori is a member of the National Organization for Women at her school, and a member of the National Honors Society, where she tutors weekly in Precalculus and Algebra II. This past summer. Dori traveled with a youth group on an educational tour that allowed her to visit over one dozen states across the United States including Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, and Hawaii. During the summer of Covid, Dori created and ran a summer day camp, Camp Beaver Dam, on Long Island for local children in the neighborhood. In her free time, Dori enjoys playing the guitar, reading novels, writing, and visiting her favorite museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Kweller Prep Counselor Paula

Paula Lee is a platinum-level tutor and expert college consultant at Kweller Prep. She served as the Director of New York University’s Wasserman Center for Career Development. She recently retired from NYU after 35 years and is now a college application and career counselor at Kweller Prep. Paula possesses a wealth of expertise in undergraduate college admissions and graduate school applications. She has reviewed over 10,000 resumes throughout her professional career and guided thousands more through the tough application process.

As this Director at NYU, Paula advised and mentored students, engaged faculty in career-related efforts, and created programs, services, and online resources to enhance student and alumni career development. She achieved this through effective use of the internet and inter-university collaborations abroad and around the world.

As Director, Paula stayed current on national and international trends and ensured opportunities for internships and employment throughout NYU. She consulted with academic deans to ensure that NYU programs and services addressed students’ needs. Paula solicited faculty involvement in identifying opportunities to bridge classroom skills and help undergraduates secure internships and employment. Furthermore, as Director, Paula developed and implemented campus-based and industry-based NYU career fairs, seminars, presentations, workshops, and alumni networking events.

Paula completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Barnard College, Columbia University, and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Hunter College. Her coursework included: social psychology, psychology and ethics, and cognitive psychology, as well as several humanities and social sciences courses.

Paula is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She serves as President of the National Rehabilitation Association, New York Chapter, the oldest professional member organization in the United States that advocates for the rights of individuals with disabilities while promoting high-quality, ethical, and collaborative practice across the rehabilitation profession. Paula’s special interest groups include helping first-generation students and individuals with disabilities achieve college success.

Paula has known Frances Kweller for twenty-two years and counting. Paula served as Frances Kweller’s college and career counselor when she was an undergraduate at NYU. Paula guided Frances Kweller to pursue an education degree, become a lawyer, and pursue a career in entrepreneurship. Paula has supported Kweller Prep since Day 1. She hosted students from Kweller Prep at NYU for 15 years, treating them to delicious rainbow bagels, giving them heartfelt college advice, and coordinating private tours of NYU’s campus.

Paula possesses a very calm and soothing demeanor. She is open-minded, friendly, and has a personality where all the students she works with feel at ease. She removes stress levels from families with her expert hands, guiding them to make the best college choices possible. Kweller Prep is extremely fortunate to have Paula Lee as an asset and student mentor.

Kweller Prep Tutor JustinJustin attends Emory University and is on track to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business. He graduated as Valedictorian, ranked #1, in his senior class. During Justin’s first year at Emory, he was on the Dean’s List and inducted into Phi Eta Sigma’s Honor Society. Justin graduated from Baruch High School, located in Manhattan. Justin’s coursework in high school included: Forensics, Honors Literature, Regents Algebra, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish. In his first year of college, he has excelled in his classes: Business Economics, Calculus, Middle Eastern Civilizations, Intermediate Spanish, Financial Accounting, Anthropology, and a Rhetorical Composition class. Besides school, Justin also attended a Civil and Environmental and Alternative Energy Engineering Program at Syracuse University – Syracuse.edu. The program entailed exploring the properties of materials and the fundamentals of structural engineering. It also included a hands-on component to study the stress and behavior of certain materials under varying conditions.

Justin took many Advanced Placement classes, including AP US History, AP Physics, and AP AB Calculus. He received an Advanced Regents Diploma. In addition, he has received many awards like the Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America Scholarship Award, the Hanley Medal from the School Art League, a Semi-Finalist for the Posse Scholarship, and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Justin was involved in multiple activities, such as being a part of the Lemelson MIT Invent Team. While there, he and his team won a $10,000 grant to build a cost-efficient washing machine designed with solar power. The device his team developed served underprivileged families who do not have access to a washer or dryer.

Additionally, Justin was a leader on his high school’s Math Team. He met with members to work through complex problems, the Lorax Environmental club, where he had multiple fundraisers to help raise awareness about the environment. He was a part of the Varsity Soccer Team, where team traveled throughout the city.

More recently, Justin has been a part of multiple business clubs such as Algory Capital Group and Emory Impact Investing Group. He also came in 3rd place at a stock pitch competition where he had to pitch a stock with certain criteria before venture capitalists. He is in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He has been a part of multiple Jewish programs from the Meor Organization at Emory, such as the Maimonides Jewish Program and the Jewish podcast fellowship.

Justin has experience as an SAT and SHSAT tutor. He taught classes at Kweller Prep all summer before starting Emory and is excited to work with the students at Kweller Prep this summer and beyond. Before joining Kweller Prep, Justin tutored middle school and high school students in Regents Algebra 1, 2, and Biology. He likes to ski and golf in his free time and spends time with his friends, many of whom work at Kweller Prep.

Sophia was accepted to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Via Early Decision. She is on the premed track and plans a career as a healthcare provider. Sophia is a recent graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Manhattan. Her coursework included the following Advanced Placement Courses: AP Literature, AP US History, AP World History, AP Comparative Government, AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB. She also excelled in Honors Spanish. Sophia received many awards at graduation, including an AP Scholar with Distinction Award for her high Advanced Placement scores. She also received the Sephardic Brotherhood of America Scholarship Award for her community service and leadership within the Jewish Community. Sophia was a semifinalist for the Posse Scholarship and National Merit semifinalist for demonstrating great leadership and high test scores. Sophia earned a near-perfect SAT score of 1550/1600 and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school career. Sophia attended a Humanitarian Medical Technology program at Syracuse University. She collaborated with other students from the country to learn how to use technology to benefit low-income communities. In High School, Sophia was the leader of the Technology and Animal Welfare Club. She taught students how to use photoshop and code in the Technology Club. Sophia was also part of various women empowerment clubs, including Girl Up and GLOWED (Girls Leading Our World). She organized a fundraiser for her school called Zim Kids for African children who lost their parents to AIDS. Sophia was active in politics in her community by participating in High School Democrats of America (HSDA). She wanted to hear directly from political speakers and have the chance to respond to them to advocate for her own political beliefs. Outside of school, Sophia was involved in numerous activities. She has worked as an art instructor at the Pawcasso Art Studio in Westhampton Beach, NY, for the past five years. She enjoys teaching young children and adults how to paint. Aside from academics, Sophia enjoys skiing and dancing. Sophia is a kind, patient tutor with experience working with students from five to fifteen years old. She aspires to pursue a career as a pediatrician so she can work with children forever. Sophia is excited to add that she and her older brother Justin are attending Emory and working as tutors at Kweller Prep.
