Kweller Prep Tutor Mariah

Mariah attends Fordham University at Rose Hill. She is on the pre-law track as an English and Philosophy major. Mariah received a $35,000 Academic scholarship from Fordham and was also awarded the Hotel Trades Union Scholarship of $12,000 dollars. At Fordham, her course work includes classes in Psychology, Statistics, Texts and Context, Theology, Philosophy, and African history. Mariah currently has a 3.9/4.0 GPA, and on Fordham’s Dean’s List. Mariah is the founder of Fordham’s Students for Social Justice club where she and her peers take on social justice issues on Fordham’s campus. She is currently working on a legal internship specializing in immigration law. Mariah graduated with honors from Archbishop Molloy High School in 2019 with a 4.0 GPA. Her course work at Molloy included AP Psychology, AP English Literature, and Composition, AP English Language and Composition, as well as honors English, French, and History classes. She was awarded the Molloy Stanner Spirit Award, the Award for Academic excellence both in 2018 and 2019 and was on Molloy’s honor roll all semesters. Mariah was vice-president of the Spanish club her senior year. Her focus during her governance was the history of Caribbean culture. She was part of the track and field team where she threw the javelin, shot put, and discus for three years. Mariah served as a youth ambassador for Project Nyme Nsa, a non-profit organization that works to create homes and opportunities for orphans in Ghana and Zambia, Africa. Her role included conducting fundraisers for the organization. Mariah was also involved in a program at Molloy volunteering at Briarwood All Women’s homeless shelter located in Jamaica, New York. Mariah tutored kids at the shelter ages five through thirteen in English, Math, and the Sciences. Mariah is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French. She began learning French during her freshman year of High School at Molloy and is continuing to expand her knowledge at Fordham. She plans to study abroad in France. Mariah’s family is of Dominican Republic descent. We are proud to add that Mariah is a longtime former student at Kweller Prep. Maria’s older sister, Liss Mendez, was also a longtime former student at Kweller Prep and Molloy HS graduate. Liss also served as a legal intern for Frances Kweller years ago. Liss went on to attend St. John’s University School of Law and recently passed the New York State Bar exam. We are excited to have Mariah as a TACHS exam tutor, role model, and mentor for the students at Kweller Prep.


In Person Queens Instructor: Rudy

RUDY is currently pursuing his Master’s in Computer Science at The Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, located in the heart of Boston. Because his classes are online, Rudy is teaching in-person classes at Kweller Queens (lucky us!). Rudy graduated from St Joseph’s College with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering finishing with a 3.67/4.0 GPA. Rudy attended college on a full scholarship and was even featured in the school’s commercial. Rudy’s college coursework included rigorous classes such as calculus 1&2, physics, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and physiology, all of which he aced. Always striving for more, Rudy has worked a variety of prestigious employment opportunities including Summer Associate position at Nixon Peabody LLP where Rudy handled many high profile clients and Clinician position at NYU School of Medicine in a Breast Oncology trials capacity. Rudy has been tutoring since he was in high school at renowned Archbishop Molloy High school. Rudy received a full scholarship to Molloy High School. He has tutored students successfully for the TACHS exam for over 5 years. His skillset spans myriad disciplines, showcased in the subjects he tutors including GRE, ACT, SAT, SHSAT, TACHS, Legal Writing, Essay Writing, Personal Statement Writing, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Rudy is a proud son of Haitian immigrants born and raised in Queens, New York thoroughly decorated with various scholarships from prestigious foundations such as GEM and institutions such as Archbishop Molloy, Northeastern University, and St John’s University School of Law. Having navigated the educational system and understanding the nuances of administration, Rudy is a pillar of support for his peers and students in need of information and guidance on optimally navigating the high school, college, and graduate school system themselves. Rudy has a calm, pleasant, relaxed demeanor. He is a brilliant tutor who conveys content in a way that students understand. When Rudy teaches, he s in his element. We are delighted to announce Rudy will be teaching live, in-person classes at Kweller Prep’s Queens location for 2020. Students at Kweller Prep Queens are very lucky to have this opportunity.
