Important Notes About the SAT Exam

  1. Starting in spring 2024, all students will take the SAT digitally.
  2. Students will take the SAT on a laptop or tablet using a custom-built digital exam application they’ll download before test day.
  3. Each student will have a unique test form, so it will be practically impossible to cheat or share answers.
  4. The SAT will be administered seven (7) times each year.
  5. The new digital SAT will be 2 hours long instead of 3. It will include two sections (1) Reading and Writing AND (2) Math with a break in between.
  6. The digital test will be adaptive, so it can continue to measure the same core reading, writing, and math knowledge and skills much more efficiently, shortening the overall length of the test while also allowing students more time per question.
  7. Each test section (1) Reading and Writing AND (2) Math is divided into two parts called modules. Students answer questions in the first module before moving on to the next. The questions students are given in the second module depend on how they performed in the first module.
  8. Students will be able to practice with the new digital adaptive format starting this fall.
  9. Students can take the digital SAT Suite on a laptop or tablet. They can use a personal device or a school-issued device.
  10. The digital testing application will include many test tools for students, which include a way to flag questions to come back to them later, a countdown clock, which students can choose to show or hide at the top of their testing screen, that will alert them when they’re running out of time.
  11. The new digital SAT will include a built-in graphing calculator students can use on the entire math section (or they can bring their calculator).
  12. The new digital SAT will include a reference sheet for each math question, consisting of common formulas.
  13. Scores will be delivered to students after only a few days.
  14. The SAT will still be scored on a 1600 scale.
  15. Students will be given scratch paper and can bring a pen or pencil.
  16. Students are responsible for downloading Bluebook™ and setting it up before test day. Students can also download Bluebook in their testing room.
  17. Students can request a loaned device when they register for the SAT.
  18. Students are instructed to arrive with a fully charged device that will last three hours; however, students can access power if it can be done fairly and without disrupting other students.
  19. Test centers must provide students with extended time accommodations and access to power, though it can be continuous.
  20. The digital SAT will be in English, regardless of the language setting during testing.
