FATIMA

Fatima, is an undergraduate student in a dual degree, coordinated, highly selective BA-MD program at Brooklyn College. This 8-year, direct high-school-to-medical route automatically admits students to SUNY Downstate Medical College. Fatima is also part of the Scholars Honors Program and is the recipient of a yearly academic scholarship. Fatima is pursuing a double major in Biology (B.S) and Psychology (B.S) and is also minoring in Biochemistry and Neuroscience. In addition, Fatima is also doing research at Brooklyn College Cancer Center (BCCC-CURE). Fatima’s research focuses on preclinical evaluation and mechanistic studies on metal-based potential chemotherapeutic agents. She focuses on the in vitro evaluation of the efficacy of gold-based anticancer agents against genitourinary and breast cancer. Fatima is also part of the Stacey & Michael Garil Summer Research Internship Program (2022).

Fatima attended Abraham Lincoln High School from 9th-12th grade where she took many college-now classes and was part of the STEM Research Academy. At her high school, Fatima was the Treasurer of the National Honors Society and a National Merit Scholar. Fatima took Advanced Placement courses such as AP Biology (5/5), AP Calculus BC (5/5), AP Psychology (5/5), AP World History (4/5), AP English Literature (5/5). Fatima received a 1520/1600 on her SAT placing her in the 99th percentile nationally. Furthermore, she received a 33/36 on her ACT, placing her in the 98th percentile.

Outside of school, Fatima participated in the Colorectal Cancer Summer Research Program and was an intern at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center. Fatima also volunteered at Coney Island Hospital and Maimonides Medical Center and Cancer Center and is an active member of Red Cross Youth. When not at Kweller Prep, Fatima enjoys competitively running and was a member of the Brooklyn College cross-country team. Fatima is a close friend of Amber, a seasoned Hunter, SHSAT, and SAT tutor at Kweller Prep. Amber and Fatima are both pursuing their BA-MD at Brooklyn College and spend their time studying for classes and discussing their research.
