Kweller Prep Tutor Jane

Jane is a senior at Hunter College High School. While her academic focus lies in STEM, particularly Earth and Climate Sciences, she is a well-rounded student with extracurricular interests in the humanities and the arts. Jane has taken AP Chemistry, BC Calculus, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Latin.

Jane was part of a yearlong research project related to work at the NASA Goddard Institute under a Columbia University researcher, optimizing and analyzing climate modeling experiments to assess factors creating environmental conditions favorable for life. Jane also has interned at the Intrepid Museum, where she presented research on PCBs’ effects on the Hudson River’s ecosystem at a Museum Showcase. As a member of the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation’s GreenThumb Youth Leadership Council, she spent much time until the pandemic volunteering at community garden events, and spearheaded a project archiving urban garden stories on social media.

Jane has pedagogy experience through private tutoring and as a mentor and teen ambassador for the program Music Ally, in which she teaches classical violin to beginner musicians around the world. Having picked up the violin at age four, she has been awarded in numerous international competitions, is concertmaster of her school’s Chamber Orchestra, and is a member of the New York Youth Symphony, which won the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance in 2022 and has ranked #1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart. She has performed numerous times at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She actively uses music to better her community through endeavors such as performing alongside Grammy-winning Ricky Kej for UNICEF’s Mission LiFE campaign, encouraging youth climate activism. She is also president of Studio 94, a school club that organizes fundraiser concerts at hospitals, senior homes, and more.

In 2022, Jane was awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal for her community service, the US Congress’s highest honor for youth civilians, becoming one of only two NYC recipients that year. She is also a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist (finalist selection pending), a member of the National Junior Classical League Latin Honors Society, and has received the Gold Medal/Summa cum Laude on the National Latin Exam. In her free time, Jane enjoys books, movies, and exploring NYC’s museums.
