Mariah

Mariah graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Hunter College. She was part of a competitive program in which only 35 students are admitted every academic year. Mariah’s college courses included Health Program Planning and Evaluation, Epidemiology Principles, Community Health Assessment, and Health Care Systems and Policy.

Mariah recently earned her certification as a Health Education Specialist. She is currently a Research Assistant at Hunter College, where she employs web-scraping software to analyze social media content related to the environmental impacts of wildfires on communities. Mariah’s interest in environmental public health began when she interned at the Bronx River Alliance during her junior year of college. She participated in the EPA’s Unified Water Study, where she collected and analyzed water samples. This work earned her the Essie E. Lee Award from the Hunter College School of Urban Public Health for outstanding achievements in community health.

Mariah graduated as the Valedictorian of Richmond Hill High School’s class of 2019. Mariah was a recipient of the Senator Sanders Youth Leadership Award. She served as Captain of the Richmond Hill High School’s Varsity Soccer Team, which earned her both the Coaches award and MVP award. While in High School, Mariah took AP classes, including AP Government and AP Literature and Composition. She also took courses in partnership with York College and Farmingdale State College. Some of these courses included Genetics and Anatomy & Physiology, both of which she received an ‘A’ equivalence.
