SEBASTIAN

Kweller Prep Tutor Sebastian

SEBASTIAN is currently attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Economics, and Data Science. Sebastian graduated from Stuyvesant High School, one of New York City’s few elite specialized high schools. In high school, Sebastian’s coursework included: AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, and Linear Algebra. As a high schooler, he was part of the Stuyvesant High School Freshman and Sophomore Math Team, as well as part of Stuyvesant’s Honors Math Curriculum, allowing him to take AP Calculus BC in his junior year. Sebastian’s additional coursework includes AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Chemistry, Mandarin, and Existentialism.

During the summer prior to his senior year, Sebastian participated in Columbia University’s Engineering the Next Generation, a six-week program for rising seniors providing them with the opportunity to work with Columbia Engineering researchers to develop their academic and professional skills in a laboratory. Sebastian was part of the Kasza Living Materials Laboratory, working alongside Ph.D. students to analyze drosophila, or fruit flies, to gain a better understanding of human tissue development. Through harvesting drosophila, and recording their development over a few days, Sebastian was able to create movies of their embryonic development to better understand how the drosophila’s cells interact with each other to form tissues.

Additionally, Sebastian was a part of the Columbia University Science Honors Program, a weekend program that allows high school students to attend university-level courses starting in the fall of their sophomore year and progressing into their senior year. As a part of this program, Sebastian has been able to enroll in courses such as Biochemistry, Introduction to Data Science, Human Physiology, Introducing to Programming in Java, and Introduction to Algorithms and Data Structures. Sebastian is also a highly competitive boxer who has participated in the sport for 13 years, as well as becoming nationally ranked in his divisions over the years.

We are proud to add that Sebastian has been a Kweller Prep student since the 7th grade when he enrolled in the SHSAT prep course with his goal of gaining admission to Stuyvesant. By attending the Spring, Summer, and Fall SHSAT prep courses at Kweller Prep, Sebastian was ultimately able to achieve this goal by scoring a 568 on the SHSAT. Afterward, Sebastian attended Kweller Prep for SAT prep as well as for help with his college application, which ultimately enabled him to receive early admission to MIT in December. Sebastian received a 1510 on his SAT. As a long-time student and supporter of Kweller Prep, Sebastian hopes to provide students with the same level of dedication and support that his tutors provided him. During his free time, Sebastian enjoys going to the gym, running outside, taking edX courses in programming and finance, and reviewing AMC problems.
