SOPHIE is currently a student at Cornell University studying Biology with a concentration in Neurobiology and Behavior. Sophie has completed courses in General Chemistry I and II, Introductory Cell and Developmental Biology, Introductory Physiology, and Sociology of Science. Sophie attended Convent of the Sacred Heart High School and graduated with a 4.15/4.33 GPA. Sophie sat for the SHSAT, TACHS, and ISEE exams, for which she gained admission to the Bronx High School of Science. She also scored a 1510/1600 on the SAT, placing her in the 98th percentile. We are happy to share that Sophie’s younger brother Jonathan attended Kweller Prep in preparation for the Hunter Admissions Test and currently attends Hunter College High School.
While in high school, Sophie prepared independently for the Spanish Language, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Biology, and English Literature Advanced Placement exams, receiving 4s and 5s on her examinations. Her high Advanced Placement scores have allowed Sophie to obtain a semester’s worth of college credits, placing her ahead of her peers who are also pursuing a Biology Major. Additionally, Sophie received the subject awards for Physics, Biology, and Spanish and the Head of School Award upon graduation. Sophie is also a recipient of a scholarship from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and was recognized by the College Board as a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. While attending Convent of the Sacred Heart, she was a member of the varsity indoor and outdoor track and cross-country teams from freshman to senior year. She was also the president of Sacred Heart’s Amnesty International chapter and volunteered to tutor a sixth-grade student in Spanish. At Cornell, Sophie is currently a guide-in-training for Outdoor Odyssey and will lead a four-day backpacking trip for incoming freshmen in the fall and a member of Cornell Media Guild. Now, she is preparing to host a weekly radio show with her two friends on Cornell’s student-run radio station WBVR 93.5 FM. During her free time, Sophie enjoys running, reading, and listening to music.
