SUMAIA is an undergraduate student majoring in Global Liberal Studies (GLS) with a Pre-Law focus at New York University with a 3.96/4.0 GPA. Global Liberal Studies is defined as an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree that frames philosophies, politics, and the arts to encourage intellectual curiosity. Sumaia plans to concentrate on Law, Ethics, History, and Religion (LEHR). Sumaia is a proud member of NYU’s Liberal Studies Law Cooperative (LSLC) and the Undergraduate Law Society – All University in order to begin her journey in preparing for law school. Oftentimes, Sumaia also joins university-hosted volunteer days to help out the East Village community and others in need.
Sumaia received a perfect score on the Gifted and Talented test, attended TAG Young Scholars since 3rd grade, and graduated as the salutatorian of her year. After preparing with Kweller Prep for the SHSAT, she was accepted into The Bronx High School of Science and attended from 9th to 12th grade. In the Bronx High School of Science, Sumaia took many APs such as AP English Language and Literature, AP English Language and Composition, both of which she scored a five on, AP Macroeconomics, AP U.S. History, AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP Environmental Science, and AP Statistics. Sumaia has also attended Kweller Prep for her standardized exams, scoring 1510 on her SAT, and was part of the extensive Bronx Science Speech and Debate team that consistently ranks top in the nation as a member of Speech. For the summer of her junior year, Sumaia was also accepted into Harvard’s Summer Pre-College Program, a highly selective two-week summer program in which she took the Constitutional Law, Civil Rights, & Civil Liberties course and received a written evaluation and Harvard transcript from Harvard professor Gabriel Katsh.
Sumaia’s passion for tutoring was ignited particularly during COVID-19, which set many students back and resulted in changes to many exams and how learning is evaluated. Ranked as a top tutor in the volunteer-based tutoring program, Sumaia aspires to teach students at Kweller Prep to become the top of their class and entice a passion for learning.
Outside of tutoring, Sumaia enjoys volunteering, creating art, playing badminton, and playing competitive video games.
