During her college career, Tasnim has taken a wide variety of courses such as Chemistry, Statistics, Calculus, Language & Communication Disorders, Developmental Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Perception & Cognition Development, Psychopharmacology, Psychopathology, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, Modern Logic, and Data Analytics.
Prior to this, Tasnim attended Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences, where she participated in Advanced Placement classes including AP Calculus, AP English Literature, and AP U.S. History. Tasnim graduated from her high school with a 4.0 GPA. Tasnim scored a 1500/1600 on the SAT and 34/36 on the ACT. At Jamaica Gateway, she participated in and volunteered for various extracurricular programs such as the Exploring Program at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, the Model United Nations, and the Medical Scholars Pipeline Program at Hofstra University.
Her interests outside of academics include, but are not limited to, connecting with her community, traveling, and participating in creative arts. She is a member of the Forté Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that is geared towards motivating, educating, and building a community of successful women by creating accessible educational materials, professional development, and opportunities in business. Tasnim participates in multiple conferences held by Forté, especially those that are catered towards advancing the professions of women of color.
Tasnim’s interests in politics and government started in high school when she joined the Model UN Club. As delegates, Tasnim and her team members presented at the United Nations Headquarters, where they proposed potential solutions for providing educational resources to women in underserved communities in Pakistan. Her interest only continued to flourish after high school. In 2021, Tasnim joined Astoria’s Community Board 1 Member Evie Hantzopoulos’ campaign. As a part of the Youth Committee, she participated in educating the community about Hantzopoulos’ socioeconomic goals for improving District 22. Tasnim led voter education events, participated in canvassing with neighbors, and wrote countless personalized postcards to voters. She engaged in multiple field activities and worked with outreach coordinators to ensure the community would learn about how Hantzopoulos would serve long-time residents of District 22.
As a Jamaica resident, Tasnim is active in her community, where she has worked with various organizations, such as COMY (Cats of Meow York), a non-profit, TNRM (Trap-Neuter-Rescue-Manage) focused organization that aims to reduce New York City’s stray cat population. During the time that she joined this organization, Tasnim received TNR certification and has helped trap, foster, and adopt out cats. It was through COMY that Tasnim adopted her current cat, whom she enjoys spending time with. She continues to volunteer at the rescue, working closely with other team members to ensure the cats in the holding space are being taken care of. Tasnim dedicates several hours per week to visiting the holding space, ensuring that all kittens and cats are fed and medicated regularly. Tasnim also volunteers her time by cleaning the holding space and socializing new intakes.
Tasnim also enjoys dancing and has led various dance teams in the past. Tasnim has specialized in classical Bengali dance and contemporary Bollywood dance since childhood.
Tasnim has over 5 years of tutoring experience, during which she has taught both one-on-one sessions and group classes. Tasnim is known for giving the best (and most) notes amongst all the tutors at the center. At Kweller Prep, Tasnim has taught many SHSAT classes, Hunter HS prep classes, Hunter Descriptive Writing courses, and ELA/MATH State Test prep classes. She began her teaching journey by tutoring students in her neighborhood, particularly those who lacked access to adequate resources to attend formal institutions. Tasnim greatly enjoys teaching and connecting with her students. She hopes to become an educator one day, thanks to her passion for teaching. Working at Kweller Prep has only reinforced and solidified her love for education and teaching. When not at Kweller Prep, Tasnim enjoys listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
